Small Strokes

The Milk Carton Curator: Cultural Events Management is a contract-based logistical and administrative coordinator business devoted to partnering with arts organizations working to make big events and new programs happen.

The Problem

Many arts organizations either don’t have a full-time person devoted to behind-the-scenes logistical and administrative workers. Without this, staff members take on a little bit of everything. They are already spread thin on a daily basis; making a larger community event, fundraising and donors evening, or new program happen in the best manner possible takes a lot of juggling. Details can fall through the cracks and deadlines become pressed, making staff have to pick and choose what is most important—cost, speed, or quality. Why sacrifice during the planning process when you can have personalized and specialized help?

Our Solution

With my help, the organization’s staff can focus on the day to day and their final goal for the event or new program. While they develop the big picture necessities, I help organize budgets; keep PRs in proper shape for end-of-fiscal year budget reexaminations; make RSVP calls and reach out to necessary partnership organizations and businesses; organize spreadsheets so staff can find the details they need with ease; write or edit press releases; and make sure mail with attendees data is sent, received, and categorized.

While most of my work is done remotely, the organizations can pay for accommodations for me to do on-site visits and checks. If they decide they need this option, I can help with the day of organization of volunteers, vendors, and guest check-in. I can make runs for staff if an emergency occurs (i.e., running low on supplies that are located in another part of the building or that need to be purchased). I can ensure that security is on site and in position if necessary. If a program is beginning, I can help with check-in and complete a first day program evaluation so any hitches or adjustments that need to be made can be addressed and fixed before the program continues.
